Ability's 25th Anniversary Celebration!
Today, Ability celebrated the 25 wonderful years since its launch in 1991.
As part of the celebration, we invited a number of current and former colleagues, clients and supporters to a function in Manly, back where it all started. We were humbled to be joined by many leaders in the Disability sector across New South Wales, to celebrate this important milestone.
Also in attendance were NSW Minister for Disability Services John Ajaka, Minister for Families and Community Services Brad Hazzard, and Greg Donnelly MLC representing the Leader of the Opposition Luke Foley. We were also excited to have joining us several representatives from the new Northern Beaches Council including former Mayor of Manly Jean Hay, as well as Greens candidate for the seat of Warringah Clara Williams-Roldan and Nick Xenophon Team candidate Marie Rowland. Independent James Mathison, Labor's Andrew Woodward and the Hon Tony Abbott MP sent their apologies.
In his speech, Executive Director Dr Graeme Smith outlined Ability's long history of helping people with disabilities become more productive and independent through technology, including its humble beginnings. "When I started this work, there were no CDs, no internet, and phones weren’t smart," he said. "The journey since then has been like riding a wave, feeling it grow in size and speed, never sure whether you are riding it or it is carrying you, or maybe both. It has been an exciting and rewarding 25 years!"
It was a pleasure to join with past and present clients, colleagues and supporters to celebrate a remarkable milestone in Ability's history. Thank you to everyone who attended and joined us in celebrating the impact Ability has made in the last 25 years.
